The Surrounding Area

The house is nestled in the foothills of the Sibillini Mountains overlooking the hilltop village of Gualdo which is a small but perfectly formed medieval village.  The views from the top are breathtaking.   It offers a few small shops, cafe, bank and petrol station and a lovely tree lined avenue to sit or stroll down.  The weekly market is small but everything you need is there.

San Ginesio has a beautiful piazza lined with cafes & restaurants were you can sit and relax and enjoy a coffee or glass of local wine.   There is a spacious   park and picnic area with children's playground were you can sit and enjoy the spectacular views.100_0886   It has a communal swimming pool and tennis courts if you want to burn off the calories.

Sarnano

Sarnano is much larger and only a 15 minute drive away. You will find numerous shops, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, banks and boutiques.   Every Thursday it host's a lively weekly market which is not to be missed.  Throughout July & August   it hosts daily festival's (as does every town & village) which take place on an evening,  they are mainly music or food related  the best one being the annual Palio were they hold Annual Palio in Sarnanomedieval sports in the afternoon and ending the evening with a drumming presession to the upper piazza all in full medieval costume - well worth a visit.   There are also tennis courts, swimming pool, crazy golf, play area and health spa.

The capital of this part of the region is the university town of Macerata which plays host to the world famous open air opera during July and August (see events page for itinary).  The old town is very beautiful with its many churches, palaces and piazzas.   The shopping is excellent as you would expect from a regional capital.

The coastal resorts are about 45 minutes away and vary from shingle to sandy beaches.  They have all the facilities you need for a day at the beach including some top class fish restaurants.   The more traditional coastal village's of Sirolo and Numana on the Conero peninsula are very pretty and make an excellent day out - especially with the golf coarse just outside Sirolo - just think a round in the morning lunch at a seafront restaurant and swim in the afternoon, what more could you want??

Lake FiestraIf the heat gets too much then lake Fiastra in the mountains would make a welcome relief.   It offers various water sports and a man made beach to relax on if you just want to watch.

Tennis, swimming, walking, hiking, skiing, biking & horse-riding are all available locally.
